Ghanaians complain about the low quality nature of the new Voters ID

The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has today, Tuesday, June 30 begun a nationwide voter registration exercise towards the compilation of a new electoral roll for the December presidential and parliamentary elections.

Their decision to compile a new register came with a lot of hurdles from the opposition party, National Democratic Congress amidst multiple court suings.

But with determination, the EC has finally won the battle to conduct the exercise for a new Voters register.

The budget for this new exercise cost around 400million Ghana Cedis.

Because of how high the cost is, many expected that the new card would have some new features that we’ve never seen in previous years.

From comments sighted by Celebrities Buzz on social media, many expected the new card to look like the Ghana Card or even the Nation Health Insurance card with some level of quality and ‘class’.

However, the exercise have started and the only new feature we can see on the card is a QR Code.

The card looks ‘cheap’ like the old ones we have seen over the years with a plastic coating which doesn’t last long.

Some sects of Ghanaians are not happy with this. They expected to see something more advanced.

Below are some comments we gathered on Facebook:
