Doreen Ashiboe Mensah inducted as President of Rotary Club of Accra-Labone

The Rotary Club of Accra-Labone has inducted into office Doreen Ashiboe Mensah as its new President for the Rotary year 2020-2021.

RP Doreen will lead a new team of board members to steer affairs of the club for the 2020/2021 Rotary Year, taking over from IPP Kwaku Tweneboah Ofosu, also known as Tkay.

At a brief induction ceremony in Accra yesterday, Thursday, July 2, 2020, RP Doreen said “Thank you to fellow Rotarians for the confidence in handing over your club to our care for one year.”

She said the Rotary Club of Accra-Labone has been labelled as the ‘loud’ club and that “We will be carrying this loud attitude to projects sites and assemblies as we embark on more impactful projects and fundraising activities.”

She said the club will be frequently visiting myrotarycentral to acquire more rotary knowledge and also increase “our contribution efforts and budget to the Rotary Foundation,” saying the Rotary Club of Accra Labone was a “Serious Loud Club.”

Outlining some projects the club intends to undertake, RP Doreen said the club will refurbish the Nsawam Children’s Ward, which the club has adopted over the years.

Projects

She noted that the club will be providing maternal or ward beds, and some air conditioners for the hospital, pointing out that “We will undertake some fumigation exercises, provision of basic hospital equipment, furniture for the medical staff etc.”

She also indicated that the Rotary Club of Accra-Labone will this year undertake drilling of a borehole in a deprived community; embark on sanitary pad donation to the female inmates at the Accra psychiatric hospital, as well as undertake a joint project on Health with other Rotary clubs.

Activities

She was of the view that although the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the activities of the club, the club was determined to carry out some activities, saying the club will hold an all-inclusive breakfast 26th of September 2020; a beach fest on 5th December 2020 and a night of boogying on 5th March 2021.

RP Doreen said although “this year promises to be more challenging”, the club was poised to be stronger, saying “This year especially will test the strength of our imagination, the depth of our knowledge, the bond of our friendships and our commitment to achieving our rotary goals.”

She added “With teamwork, dedication, passion and our eyes on the ball, we shall celebrate a year from today the collective successes of our achievement as we hand over to PE Emmanuel and his team in 2021/2022.”

Support

IPP Ofosu, in his remarks congratulated RP Doreen on her new position, urging her to always count on him and other members for support.

He said Rotary leadership offers one a great chance to learn, appealing to all members to forgive him if during his tenure he wronged anyone.
