Thirty-eight out of 39 workers who tested positive for COVID-19 at the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) have recovered and would be resuming work, the authority has disclosed.
According to the authority, 450 of its staff were mandatorily tested as part of the measures to combat the pandemic, out of which 39 tested positive.
“As part of the measures to combat the pandemic, the FDA organized Mandatory Testing for a total of 450 staff (including the CEO and all Top Management) from its Head Office, Tema Office, KIA Office and the Laboratory, out of which 39 tested positive”, a statement from the authority indicated.
A statement signed by the Head of Communications & Public Education, Mr James Lartey, said all 39 who tested positive together with those who came into close contact with them were asked to self-quarantine.
The FDA said it will continue to provide the needed services and ensure the wellbeing of its staff.
“The FDA still holds fast to our motto which says “Your well being our priority”, and as such has from the very inception of this Pandemic created an in-house Covid-19 Committee, tasked with the responsibility of ensuring the welfare of FDA staff as well as its clients nationwide, with respect to measures put in place for the prevention and protection against Covid-19″.
“Kindly note that the FDA has not closed its doors and will continue to provide the needed services to enable us contribute our quota in the fight against Covid-19”, the statement added.
