WASSCE candidates who vandalized school property to pay a fine of GH¢1,000 each

Some WASSCE candidates who went on a rampage and destroyed some school property are to pay dearly for their deeds.

365 final year students of Nedewura Jakpa Senior High Technical School at Damongo have been fined with a bill of one thousand cedis for repair works on damages caused by them.

According to reports, these students will not be able to access their results and certificates upon completion until the last penny of the fine imposed on them is paid.

Per a Joy News report, items such as Dining Hall furniture, a new six-unit classroom block and a master’s bungalow, including furniture in the examination hall and Louvre blades, were all touched and vandalised.

Also, the students’ main target was to set ablaze the new six-unit classroom block meant to end double track which took the intervention of the Municipal Chief Executive Officer of West Gonja Municipality, Saeed Muhazu Jibreal, to stop them from causing additional trouble.

This was the way these students chose to register their displeasure over what they describe as a grand scheme by the invigilators and school authorities to see them fail their exams by being overly strict on them.

There have been pockets of riots by some final year students across the country over how hard their exams questions have been set or how stringent the invigilators and school authorities have been on them.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) and the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) have taken steps to nip these disturbances in the bud before the situation deteriorates.
