Support police

Addressing the chiefs and people of the area last Thursday, the Commissioner of Police (COP) in charge of Technical,  Samuel Monney, who represented the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr James Oppong-Boanuh, said the police could only be effective and efficient when it  received support from the public.

He called on the chiefs and people of Fanteakwa and its environs to give their maximum support to the police so as to collectively work with the police to assist in addressing security challenges in the area.

Police not enemy

The police, COP Monney said, should therefore not be seen and considered as an enemy but rather a partner to the people in the maintenance of peace and security in the country.

Personnel of the police, COP Monney explained would be accountable for all actions that they had taken at all times, stressing that respect for the people was crucial to the success and effectiveness of the work.

He assured the police officers that the Police Administration would continue to support and give out the necessary tools and equipment to perform their constitutional duties as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution.

He indicated futher that hard working and committed personnel would be acknowledged, adding that any unprofessionalism and unethical, conduct which had the tendency to dent the image of the service would not be entertained by the police administration.

COP Monney warned that personnel who would misconduct themselves in the course of duty would not be shielded and punitive measures would be applied and in line with due process of the law and service regulations.

He appealed to the Regional Minister, MP and the DCE to collaborate in providing a vehicle for the new police station since the police administration had already completed the distribution of vehicles to the various police stations in the country.

December polls

On the upcoming December 7 general elections, he said together with various security agencies the police administration had put up concrete and adequate measures in place to ensure that the elections processes would be carried out in a peaceful atmosphere devoid of security breaches.

COP Monney cautioned to any person or group of people who intend to foment trouble before, during and after the electoral processes to desist from such plans.

The Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Edward Johnson Oyirifi Akrofi, expressed concern about the upsurge of crime such as dealing in narcotics and armed robbery and hoped that such crimes would be reduced with the setting up of the new police station.

Caution

The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Eric Kwakye Darfour who inaugurated the facilities cautioned the people not to be involved in crime to save them from arrest and prosecution.

The Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Kofi Okyere Agyekum, who acquired the land for the facilities appealed to the police personnel stationed there to do their best to protect lives and properties.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Mr Adjabeng Kwasi Ntori, said his outfit was worried about the limited number of police personnel in the area and appealed to the IGP to address the issue.

The Bosusohene, Nana Ata Krofa II, who was happy about the establishment of the police station said he would help deal with the spate of armed robberies and other crimes in the area.

Nana Krofa called on the people of Bosuso to consider police personnel posted to the area as friends and support them to fight crime and maintain law and order
