English-born Ghanaian forward Edward Nketiah registered his third goal of the Europa League as he opened the scoring for the Gunners in their 4-2 win over Irish side Dundalk on Thursday night.
Nketiah, 21, uncapped at senior level by neither Ghana nor England, raced the Gunners into a 12th minute lead at the Tallaght Stadium in Dublin.
The game started with a relative goal fest with three inside the opening 22 minutes. Arsenal opened things up after some good hustle from Nketiah. Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ pass through for him looked to be under Andrew Boyle’s control, but his clearance bounced off Nketiah who used his pace to drive onto the ball and into the area before dinking a finish over Gary Rogers.
Thursday’s goal means the striker has now scored 3 goals in the competition and has provided one assist.
Arsenal’s win means they have managed a 100 percent winning run in the competition’s group stage. Arteta’s side beat every team in Group B home and away and scored a total of 20 goals and only conceded 5 with Nketiah contributing 4 in the process.
