AshantiGold came from behind to beat Berekum Chelsea 2-1 in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday at the Len Clay Stadium.
Hans Kwofie sealed the win for Milovan Cirkovic’s side inside the 39th minute after Appiah McCarthy had cancelled out Augustine Henneh’s 8th minute opener for Chelsea.
Chelsea attempted to repeat last season’s feat when they defeated the hosts at the same venue and Henneh gave them the right impetus when he finished off a move in the early exchanges.
AshantiGold parading the likes of Michael Enu, Eric Esso, Richard Osei Agyemang, Empem Da Costa and David Abagna evened the scoring when McCarthy displayed his qualities by scoring from a free kick inside the 22nd minute.
Kwofie sealed the maximum points for the hosts with a clinical finish 6 minutes from the interval and the game remained unchanged throughout the entire second half.
The win has propelled AshantiGold back into the top four.
