Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson is a Ghanaian politician and a professional teacher. She was born on the 3rd of February, 1966 at Salaga in the Northern Region of Ghana.

She is the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East Constituency and was also the former Minister of Special Development Initiatives.

Shee is on the list presented to parliament for approval on 21st January 2021, by the president of Ghana Nana Akuffo-Addo, as the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development designate.

Career and Politics

Madam Hawa is a teacher by profession. She was once president of Gender Unit of the Ghana National Association of Teachers Ladies Association (GNATLAS) Sekondi local, treasurer for GNATLAS (Western Region) and also the secretary for GNATLAS (Takoradi local).

In May of 2017, President Nana Akufo-Addo named Mavis Hawa Koomson as part of nineteen ministers who would form his cabinet.

In July of 2020, Hon. Hawa Koomson breached security protocols and fired gunshots into a crowd of citizens who were in the process of registering for the controversial voters ID card.

She claimed that she felt threatened and that she was informed that foreigners had come into her constituency to register. This incident occurred in Kasoa.

She was the former minister for Special Development Initiatives.

She was appointed by President of Ghana Nana Akuffo-Addo on 10 January 2017.
