Salisu Mohammed voted Man of the Match on Premier League debut against Chelsea

Ghanaian defender Salisu Mohammed was voted Man of the Match on his full Premier League debut for Southampton against Chelsea on Saturday.

Salisu, 21, was introduced by the Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl in the starting XI in the home test against Chelsea as he replaced Kyle Walker-Peters and he impressed as he scored full marks.

As early as the 9th minute the former Real Valladolid stopper showed strong defending and tracking on his first start to deny Kante feeding Abraham in behind.

On the 51st minute mark Salisu expressed a commanding performance and produced an exceptional positionally as he intercepted Timo Werner’s dangerous cross into the box to keep Southampton in the game.

Just before that top class show from Salisu he expertly dealt with a dangerous ball from England forward Tammy Abraham as he halted the striker in his tracks.

Southampton purchased the 21-year-old from Spanish La Liga side Real Valladolid during the summer but he was unable to play due to paperwork issues.

He is also yet to feature for Ghana’s senior national team as he has been unavailable for selection by the head coach of the national team.
