Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko could soon be hit with player revolt as some players feel they deserve more game time than what head coach Johnson Smith has been offering them.
According to Accra-based Asempa FM an unnamed player poured out his displeasure on the club’s substitute bench during their Ghana Premier League super clash with Hearts of Oak a fortnight ago.
Details of the disquiet in the Kotoko squad are emerging after defender Habib Mohammed engaged in a touchline tirade with head coach Johnson Smith during Kotoko’s clash with King Faisal at the Nana Ohene Ameyaw Park in Techiman.
The former AshantiGold defender reacted angrily to his 42nd minute substitution by Johnson Smith and received flake from supporters and media alike for his behaviour towards the head coach.
According to Asempa FM’s Andy Obeng Kwaku some players within the Kotoko set up are unhappy with the selection choices of head coach Johnson Smith and Habib’s attitude towards him gives the public a small view of the disquiet within the Kotoko set up.
Last week reports circulated that the Kotoko hierarchy has embarked on a search for a new head coach to replace Johnson Smith who is the just the figure head despite Abdullahi Gazelle being the head coach on paper.
Smith doesn’t have the required CAF License A that empowers him to be the head coach at Kotoko while Gazelle who doesn’t have the requisite experience to steer affairs at the club has been confirmed as the head coach.
