Ghana head coach Charles Akonnor has handed a late call up to Hearts of Oak duo of Ibrahim Salifu and goalkeeper Richard Attah, according to Sunyani-based Nimdee FM.
The former Ghana captain wants to test the whether the two players will fit into his squad as he wraps up preparation ahead of next month’s AFCON qualifier double against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe.
Salifu has been one of the most exciting wingers in the Ghana Premier League this season and his move to Hearts of Oak from XI Wonders has upgraded his profile as he has earned a call up into the team.
Attah receives his second call up from Akonnor since his began his reign as head coach of the West African powerhouse and would seek to prove why he deserves to be in the Ghana team.
Akonnor has dropped 13 plays from the Black Stars squad on Thursday.
High-profile Ghana Premier League players who have been dropped from the squad include Medeama hot-cake Justice Blay as well as leading scorer Diawisie Taylor have both been dropped by the former Ghana international.
Asante Kotoko defender Christopher Nettey has been dropped alongside Ibrahim Moro and 9 others.
King Faisal lethal forward Kwame Peprah would also have to pack bags and baggage as he has been dropped from the squad.
Mitchelle Otu, Joseph Agyei, Joseph Addo, Rashid Nortey, Yaw Annor Yamudeen Haruna as well as Konadu Yiadom of WAFA have all been dropped from the squad.
